Trinidad Chambliss (6-0 200) has flipped college football on its proverbial head this season. The transfer from D2 Ferris State isn’t just making noise; he’s on the verge of making history. If he wins the Heisman Trophy this year, he would be the first player ever to earn this prestigious honor in both Division 1 and Division 2 (Harlon Hill Trophy).
Trinidad Who??
Ole Miss Coach Lane Kiffin literally found this kid's tape on instagram, and now he's entrenched himself into the Heisman conversation. Who doesn't love College Football?
After an impressive tenure at Ferris State, where he not only led the Bulldogs to a National Championship but also secured the Harlon Hill Trophy, none of the recruiting services were very high on him as a prospect. Listed as Transfer QB60, 843 Overall. Trinidad Chambliss's ascent at Ole Miss is a story of pure grit and determination.
During his time at Ferris State, the dual threat QB put up some very impressive numbers. In his junior year in 2024 he threw for nearly 3,000 yards and had another 1k on the ground. He had 26 TDs passing to only 6 interceptions, and a whopping 25 more TDs rushing!
The Rise to Heisman Contender
He is producing at an MVP level. Initially filling in for an injured Austin Simmons (don't go sleeping on Simmons now! He is still a value in Devy!), Chambliss has 1,864 passing yards, 9 TDs and 1 interception through his first five games of D1 ball. He also has 376 yards and 5TDs on the ground. The only players with better all around numbers than that ended up winning the Heisman Trophy (Johnny Manziel and Jayden Daniels). Chambliss is coming off a big win in Baton Rouge at LSU last weekend--A win that ultimately got LSU's coach Brian Kelly fired. RIP.
Scouting Report
There is so much to like about Chambliss's game. He consistently plays on-time and in structure. His accuracy over the middle of the field has been pinpoint. Chambliss can extend plays with his legs and also deliver precision throws on the run, putting a ton of pressure on opposing defenses. No one wants to play Ole Miss right now.
Coaches and players alike have applauded Chambliss's work ethic and leadership, dedicating extra hours in the film room and organizing team workouts. It shows up on the field, too. The players have rallied around him and trust him in the biggest moments.
Despite being a little undersized at 6-0 200, Chambliss has a strong and stocky frame. A gifted arm talent, he generates nice velocity on passes with a flick of the wrist. As his rushing totals might suggest, he is a plus+ athlete expected to run in the 4.5s at the scouting combine.
His stock is rising in the scouting community. He was projected to be a camp tryout guy at best before the season started. Now I think Chambliss could go day 2, and I wouldn't be shocked if he went higher. If you think he is too small, go look at former first overall pick Bryce Young. The NFL is always desperate for QBs and this kid is proving to be a winner at every level.

The Road Ahead
While Chambliss's talent and early season accomplishments are notable, the path to the Heisman is challenging. The SEC is fiercely competitive. Every match presents an opportunity for both victory and setback, but I'm watching the tape and Chambliss is getting better with each outing. His confidence is growing. Ole Miss is playing good football, and Lane Kiffin is definitely feeling himself. The groove is back.
Beyond performance, media presence and public perception are pivotal in Heisman voting. Studies have shown that over 70% of voters are influenced by a player’s media coverage. Chambliss will need to connect with fans and media by showcasing his journey from Division 2 to Division 1. Building a compelling narrative around his story will be crucial in earning votes. In today’s connected world, fans and media significantly shape the narrative. Social media serves as a very powerful tool for fans to rally behind their favorite players, creating buzz that can influence voting patterns.
The Significance of a Dual Division Heisman Winner
If Trinidad Chambliss secures the Heisman Trophy, it would be an iconic moment for college football. He would be the first player to win the award in both Division 1 and Division 2, breaking boundaries and setting an inspiring example for future athletes transferring up in competition. The achievement would call significant attention to the talent inherent in lower divisions and the untapped potential to be found if you... go on instagram?
Trinidad Chambliss is knocking on the door of destiny. Will he become the first dual-division Heisman Trophy winner? Only time will tell, but one thing is clear: his journey is captivating. The hurdles ahead are substantial, but so are the possibilities. As he leaves his legacy at Ole Miss, the college football world is watching a story unfold that is the embodiment of talent, determination and hope.
You inspire me, Trinidad Chambliss.
Go win that shit!
